Recently, I seriously contemplated buying a cool-looking Cuisinart ice cream maker. But really, do I need yet another electric appliance taking up space in my small kitchen? I thought of trying the ice cream-in-a-bag method and using my 2 1/2 year-old old niece Quincy to do the hard labor for me. Alas, Q’s attention span would only yield chilled creme fraiche.

I was super pleased to come across this Kitch’n article on Apartment Therapy that seems to have a pretty promising method using equipment I already have in my kitchen and that doesn’t require rolling a bag inside an old coffee can with a strong-willed toddler hatching her escape route from auntie-imposed menial labor.
